Dr. Tricia Breckon, ND
I love being active and I’ve always been an athlete in one form or another for as long as I can remember. I discovered Naturopathic Medicine by accident. In my early 20s, while I was studying at the University of Calgary, I was training for both track and field and bobsleigh. A combination of power weight lifting and a crash down the bobsleigh track left me with a back injury and chronic debilitating back pain. The conventional medical system offered me pain killers and bed rest but that wasn’t how I wanted to live the rest of my life. Naturopathic medicine saved my life. Not only did I obtain full recovery from my injuries but I was living pain free. I was hooked. At this point, I decided that I wanted to be able to make that kind of difference in other peoples’ lives!
Armed with my holistic training and research skills from my Master’s degree, I passionately pursued Naturopathic Medicine and I graduated from the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine at the top of my class, receiving the prestigious academic excellence award. Though I started my medical education knowing that I wanted to focus on physical medicine and chronic pain management, my interests broadened to include general family medicine, women’s and children’s health, cardiovascular health, autoimmunity, stress management and diet and lifestyle counselling.
My goal is to help my patients achieve optimal health and feel their absolute best. To obtain this goal I combine naturopathic therapies with the most up-to-date scientific research and consider each patient as a unique individual. By moving beyond just treating symptoms and by addressing the underlying causes of issues and illnesses, I’m able to help patients achieve lasting, long term results.
